GbERFb, a new AP2/ERF transcription factor, could monly considered to play an important role in pathogen enhance the resistance to V. dahliae and be useful in defense responses. However, only few of ERF members have improvement of crop resistance to pathogenes.been characterized in Sea island cotton (Gossypium bar badense). Here, we reported a novel AP2/ERF transcription Keywords Gossypium barbadense Verticillium dahliae factors gene, named GbERFb which was cloned and iden- ERF transcription factors Disease resistance tifified from Sea island cotton by RACE. The expression of GbERFb was signifificantly induced by treatments with Abbreviations ethylene, Methyl jasmonate, salicylic acid, wounding, H2O2 ERF Ethylene responsive factor and Verticillium dahliae (V. dahliae) infection. Bioinfor- AP2/ERF APETALA2/ethylene-responsive factor matics analysis showed that GbERFb protein containing a SA Salicylic acid conserved ERF DNA binding domain and a nuclear local- MeJA Methyl jasmonate ization signal sequence, belonged to IXb subgroup of the PR Pathogenesis related protein ERF family. Further experiments demonstrated that ORF Opening reading frame GbERFb could bind the GCC box cis-acting element and ROS Reactive oxygen species interact with GbMAPKb (MAP kinase) directly in yeast. Over-expression of GbERFb in tobacco could increase the disease resistance to V. dahliae. The results suggest that the Introduction。
